As friends of DICE Australia and AllGrid Energy we’re reaching out to you today about our charity auction

DICE Australia and AllGrid Energy’s ‘Illuminating EnvironMental Health’ event in Sydney on October 25th was opened by David Suzuki and Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore. Proceeds raised were intended for the Centre for Rural & Remote Mental Health to continue their work on an Indigenous-specific mental health program. AllGrid and DICE were motivated to host the event as we see firsthand through our work in remote communities the profound effects of poor mental health, and the intrinsic link between environment, culture and wellbeing.

We had a very short amount of time, (three and a half weeks to be precise!), to organise the event which left us in a situation where we were pressed to cover the costs let alone raise funds for the CRRMH.

Very graciously Stan Dryden, of Yarramunua Gallery, and the Commonwealth Bank have both donated paintings by recognised and exceptionally talented artists, Emily Pwerle and Daikota. You can read about both the artists on the auction site. Emily Pwerle is an established and world renown artist and her paintings typically sell for up to $9,000. Daikota is a young and emerging artist who has just been awarded a contract with the Commonwealth Bank and is clearly destined for a long and successful career.

The auction runs till December 3rd and so we are calling out to you all to help us spread this message far and wide so we can deliver some much needed funds to a great organisation who are working hard to deliver essential services to Indigenous people.

Emily’s painting already has a $5,000.00 bid on it but it is worth far more than this. Daikota’s piece is an opportunity for you to buy an early piece from a young talented artist whose presence and reputation in the art community will only grow.

Our thanks to you whether you can bid or simply help us spread the word!

Elijah Douglas from Doomadgee was one of our panelists. He is an exceptional young man who works as a youth worker in his community creating opportunities for young people to learn language and culture. Hear him talk about the connection between a healthy environment and a healthy culture here.
